A British Conservative Party official with Ghanaian ancestry named Kwasi Alfred Addo Kwarteng has been named the country's minister of finance.
The first black person to lead the Finance Ministry is Kwasi Kwarteng.
The office of the future British Prime Minister confirmed Kwarteng's appointment as Chancellor of the Exchequer on September 6, 2022.
Kwarteng previously held the position of Secretary of State at the Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy before being named the Finance Minister.
Kwarteng was born in East London's Waltham Forest in May 1975 to Ghanaian parents who had lived in the UK for ten years.
His father worked as an economist for the Commonwealth Secretariat, and his mother was a lawyer.
Following Sue-Ellen Braverman's departure on November 16, 2018, he was appointed Undersecretary of State in the Department for Exiting the European Union.

He had previously been the department's Minister of State.
Since 2010, he has represented Spelthorne, Surrey, in South-East England as an MP.
