According to data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), more than half of the households in 50 out of 261 districts (19.2%) are multidimensionally poor.

The Nkwanta North District in the Oti Region has the highest poverty rate in Ghana, at 79.7%, more than double the country's average of 29.9%.


Only North East Gonja in Savannah (77.7%) and Sekyere Afram Plains in Ashanti (75.3%) have more than three-quarters of their households living in poverty, joining Nkwanta North.

The Northern Region has three of the top 10 districts with the greatest rates of poverty, while the North East and Oti regions each have two.

The Northern Region's Nanumba North (114,226) and Gusheigu (103,852) municipalities are the only ones with more than 100,000 residents living in multidimensionally poor families.

The Northern Region is home to four of the ten districts with the highest percentage of people living in poverty, including two in Oti and one each in Savannah, North East, Western, and Volta.


The Eastern Region's New Juaben South Municipal is one of the 21 districts with a multidimensional poverty rate of less than 10% and has the lowest poverty rate in the nation (4.8%).


Greater Accra is home to six of the ten districts with the lowest rates of poverty.


The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which is observed this year under the theme "Dignity for All in Practice," was marked by the publishing of the Multidimensional Poverty District League Table by the Statistical Service.
