TEIN demands– Abolish fees increment in public universities for 2022/2023 academic year || formatgh |
The NDC's Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) has demanded that the 15% increase in public university tuition be eliminated in light of the present financial crisis.
The Parliamentary Committee on Education and the Ministry of Education have been petitioned by the KNUST chapter of TEIN to urge public institutions to rethink their decision to raise tuition.
Selma Yoda, the president of TEIN KNUST, claims in a news statement that the 15% increase would put parents' fundamental right to education at danger because of the difficulties they face.
According to the statement, "in this situation, students of different public institutions risk having their fundamental right to education denied as a consequence of the 15% increase granted by parliament."
According to TEIN, rising tuition costs combined with state institutions' incapacity to accommodate students adequately intensify parents' problems as education becomes more of a luxury than a right.
The petition requested opinion leaders' assistance in spreading this important message.
