In response to criticism, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said anybody spreading false and unsupported claims against him, particularly in the Ashanti Region, would each be ashamed.

He was addressing on Tuesday in Kumasi at the sod-cutting ceremony for a four-tier interchange at the Suame roundabout (October 18, 2022).


As part of his weeklong trip of Ashanti, President Akufo-Addo stopped at Kumasi.

The four-tier junction would assist relieve traffic congestion in that area of Kumasi, which now boasts the largest roundabout in the entire city. The Suame roundabout connects Kumasi to the northern regions of the country.


President Akufo-Addo made a promise during his trip to the Ashanti Region last year, and that promise has been fulfilled with the sod being cut for the beginning of building of a 4-tier junction at Suame.


The Suame Interchange, which will be the second in Ghana after the Pokuase Interchange, which I dedicated on July 9, 2021, would be the first 4-tier interchange in the Ashanti Region, according to President Akufo-Addo.

The Kumasi location where the largest roundabout in the entire city is now located will benefit from the four-tier junction's help in reducing traffic congestion. The Suame roundabout links Kumasi to the country's northern regions.


The sod was cut for the start of construction of a 4-tier intersection at Suame, fulfilling a promise made by President Akufo-Addo during his visit to the Ashanti Region last year.




According to President Akufo-Addo, the Suame Interchange, which will be the first 4-tier interchange in the Ashanti Region, would be the second interchange in Ghana after the Pokuase Interchange, which I dedicated on July 9, 2021.

President Akufo-Addo announced during his speech that the Suame Interchange will include a 4-Tier Interchange at the current Suame Roudabout, an overpass at the Abrepo Junction, an overpass at the Krofuom Junction, an overpass at the Anomangye Junction, an overpass at the Magazine New Road Junction, and an overpass at the Abusuakruwa Junction.

M/S Grupo Dizmar of Spain and Rango Construction Ltd, a Ghanaian company, will construct the Suame Interchange. Rango Construction Company Ltd., a Ghanaian company, will take on the supplemental road component entirely. The Ministry of Roads and Highways, through the Department of Urban Roads, will be in charge of overseeing the entire project.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways and the contractors have been tasked by President Akufo-Addo to help ensure that the country gets value for money and that deadlines are strictly followed.


Roads in Ashanti Region


The President stated that, aside from the Suame Interchange, the government was handling crucial road projects around the nation in a comprehensive way to ensure that every region of Ghana has high-quality, all-weather roads.




"Since 2017, the Akufo-Addo administration has finished laying asphalt on 295 kilometres (km) of roads in the Ashanti Region alone. According to him, some of the beneficiary regions include the Subin Nhyiaeso and Bantama areas of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Asokwa, Oforikrom, Kwadaso, Suame, Old Tafo, Asokore Mampong, Bekwai, Obuasi, Ejisu, Juaben, Sekyere East (Effiduase), Asante Mampong, and Atwima Nwabiag

President Akufo-Addo reiterated that the government had finished building the 100 km (miles) of local roads in Kumasi that M/S Contracta had been tasked with building, with Kumasi Metropolitan, Asokwa, Kwadaso, Oforikrom, Suame, and Tafo Pakrono as the beneficiary assemblies.

The Department of Urban Roads has also constructed an additional seventy-five kilometres (75 kilometres) of town roads in Ashanti, including the Bekwai Town Roads, Kwamo Town Roads, Manhyia Roads (Buokrom), and Ejisu/Kwaso Town Roads.



According to him, "M/S Sinohydro Corporation undertook the project and completed the upgrade of sixty-eight kilometres (68kms) of selected feeder roads in the Ashanti and Western Regions.

Along with the ones that are already finished, work is still being done on the Kumasi Roads and Drainage Extension Project, which is 97% finished, according to President Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the project's activities include lining the Sissai Stream for 2 kilometres and renovating the Lake Road from the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant to Dompoase (a distance of 3.5 kilometres).


"The project's component, the building of a contemporary terminal at Dompoase, has been finished and put into operation. By the end of the year, the entire project is anticipated to be finished and put into operation. The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) of France is funding the work, which is being done by M/S China Henan International Corporation- CHICO, he added.




The renovation of an additional 100 kilometres of local roads in Kumasi as part of the development of the Kumasi Inner City Roads by M/S Sino Hydro Ltd is proceeding, along with the 12-kilometer Atimatim-Maase-Aboabogya road's urgent renovation.


In addition, there are improvements being made to the 49-kilometer Asankare-Krofa-Juansa Road, the Krofa-Brantuokrom-Magyeda Road, the 40.3-kilometer Amantema Junction-Wiawso-Senkye Road, and the 30-kilometer (km) Anwiankwanta-Obuasi Road, which is 90% finished and will be finished by the end of 2022.




In addition to the 8.7-kilometer Kwapia-Wioso Feeder Road, which is presently 50% complete, President Akufo-Addo highlighted that the upgrading of the thirty-one-kilometer (31km) Dechemuoso region roads and the asphaltic overlay of Hill Top Roads, which is 57% complete, are proceeding.
